Polar Animals Week Jan 28-31, 2025

We spent the week lerning about animals that live in the cold and focused mostly on penguins, but learned some about polar bears, artic fox, and the walrus. We looked on a globe to find the top and bottom of our planet and learned both areas have very cold weather--even colder then last week when we cancelled school. We compared our heights to an adult male Emperor penguin and we tried balancing eggs on our feet--penguin dads have to keep the egg off the ice and use their feet and belly to keep them safe and warm. For cooking we made Penguin Chow--fish (goldfish crackers), squid (pretzels), and krill (raisins). We did some penguin bowling to practice our one to one counting and number writing. In the sensory table we enjoyed catching fish until the table sprung a leak and it was dry this morning when we arrived. We finished today with penguin finger puppets as we did the "Where Is Thumbkin?" rhyme.

We also focused on the /p/ sound in words like pink, purple, penguin, polar bear, etc. We made pink & purple penguins and will be assmebling them into Pink & Purple Penguin Patterns in the hall. We had a few children absent so when they return and get to make theirs we will get them up in the hall.

Here is a peek at our week:

Next week we will explore the Mo Willems stories about Pigeon--I LOVE reading them and usually the children love hearing them.
