Holiday Unit Week 1 Dec 5-8 2017
Wow! What a busy week we had! We started exploring Christmas traditions. We made some classroom decorations while practicing our tracing, cutting, drawing, gluing, and name writing skills.
There were 2 new centers--a tree decorating area and a gift wrapping area. We had the opportunity to take turns, help clean up, cut paper, use tape (we can always use more tape if you have extra at home--it is a favorite activity), and explore our creativity.
Thursday was lefse day. Mrs. Cheryl Mielke came in and taught us about making the Scandinavian flat bread. We watched her rice the potatoes and demo the process. Everyone had a turn to roll their own ball of dough, carry it over to the griddle, watch for bubbles so we knew when to flip it, and then carry it over the the towel so it could be "tucked into bed" to cool and stay soft. We tasted it with butter & cinnamon and butter & brown sugar---YUMMY!
We also made a surprise for our families--no pictures--It's a surprise!
On Friday we made a class book of names for Santa. Each child was asked to name one thing they hoped Santa might bring. Here are their responses:
Ryan--"a new house"
Will--"a big boxing thing for the backyard where I can wrestle"
Jocelyn--"a big box of Barbies and a State Farm Barbie Dream house (it has a whole city with a stop sign)"
Brynn--"Barbie Dream House"
Eve--"a make-up set, a hair wig, some gloves, and maybe a wand"
Eliana--"a big Barbie House"
Mason--"It's hard to think of anything because I already have enough toys. I'd like a basketball hoop, but we aren't moving til after Christmas and our driveway isn't big enough for one now...maybe a kitchen?."
Emma S--"baseball glove and a new skateboard"
Clay--"a big semi with a big trailer cause it is two things but it goes together so it really is one thing."
Easton--"a trampoline"
Kyra--"a mermaid toy and a Troll movie"
Kjersten--"a castle and a princess and a horse and two horses and a snowman with a mountain and a palace and a dragon"
Audri--"a toy snake that can rattle it's tail and it's fluffy and soft"
Scotlyn--"a castle with Elsa and Anna and that snowdeer and those two boys and the snowman"
Morgan--"a castle"
McKenzie--"a stuffed animal person--I don't know what her name is"
Brantley--"a robot"
Emma D--"a dollhouse"
Angel--"a pony and a dollhouse"
Laila--"a new kitchen toy, Shopkins, and Barbies"
Have a great weekend--remember to dress your child in layers for the forest on Monday. It will be chilly.
