Dec Holidays Unit Week 2

This week we learned about Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, as well as, some local traditions.

Besides reading about each holiday we made cereal necklaces, played the dreidel game, and saw a doll dressed for Kwanzaa with miniatures of many traditional Kwanzaa items. We also wrapped a top secret surprise :)

We were treated to making lefse with Gage's grandma, Cheryl Mielke. She showed how she rices the potatoes to get out all the lumps and then we helped roll the dough into balls. She used her special rolling pin to flatten them and then each child had a turn to carry their piece to the griddle where we watched it cook. Finally each child carried their cooked piece to the table where it was "tucked into bed" to steam and stay soft. Later we ate the lefse with various toppings including cinnamon & sugar, butter & brown sugar, and the most popular--peanut butter & jelly. Thank you Mrs. Mielke for coming in twice in one day so both classes could have this experience!

Our final week of celebrations will include Family Fun Day, the all elementary school concert, and pajama day!
