On Monday we focused on green. We read Go Away Big Green Monster on the bleachers in the park. We noticed the different shades of green in the leaves, moss, grass, and paint on the equipment. Some children showed persistence by trying over and over to jump to reach the trapeze bar. They were so proud of their efforts when they got it. In the afternoon a new friend, Laila, joined our class.
On Tuesday we focused on purple. We read Harold and the Purple Crayon. Each child then drew their own adventure and dictated their story to Mrs. Bender. These are on the bulletin board and can be viewed on Family Fun Day coming up Wednesday, September 27. We used purple streamers when dancing to The Freeze song. In the morning some friends decided they wanted a restaurant so they made signs and put them up in the kitchen area.
On Wednesday we focused on brown. We read Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? and made a class book with all the Early Learning children and adults in it. Later we went outside and combined various soil samples with water to make mud in a range of brown hues. In the afternoon we met new friends Johnathan and Brantley.
Thursday was our final color day and we focused on gray. We read Earl the Squirrel and met Gray Squirrel the finger puppet who taught us a song about himself. Each child colored their own Earl the Squirrel picture and made a puppet they took home. Sorry no pictures--we were so busy we forgot.
Next week will start exploring apples.
Monday will be our first Forest Day so please (even if it is super warm) dress your child in light weight long sleeves, long pants, and closed toed shoes, as well as apply bug spray before coming to school--there are berry bushes and a few mosquitoes.
Wednesday is Family Fun Day--parents or another family member/ special family friend are invited to come to school and spent the day us and see what we've been learning and what a typical day is like for our Early Learners. Also field trip slips and payment are due.
Tuesday and Thursday are regular school days.
