Apples Week 1

We started exploring apples this week and had our first Family Fun Day. It was great to get to know so many family and extended family members!

During Family Fun Day we stamped our names, finger-painted trees, punched out and added leaves or apples to numbered trees, and made our own fruit salad. We cut up  windfall apples to see if or how they changed, if the parts would float/sink, and if there were any critters inside--in the afternoon we found 3 worms! We still had time to play and read stories.

During our apple explorations we have been working on vocabulary including skin, core, stem, flesh, and seeds--also called pips. We had a tasting party and tried red, yellow, and green apple slices. We recorded our preferences.

We finished our busy week by making apple crisp. We read the recipe, smelled spices, measured ingredients, and waited for it to be done. It wasn't long and our whole room smelled liked baked apples and cinnamon.

Next week we will continue our apple exploration. Monday we are back in the forest so please leave backpacks at home and send a water bottle. We will also start having class on Fridays--we will be meeting our music teacher, Mrs. Brewer.

P.S. We also took time to create whatever we wanted with supplies from the art center.
