We were busy learning about various animals that make their homes in the extreme conditions of the polar regions near the north and south pole. We learned many have white fur to camoflauge themselves against the snowy and icy landscape. We learned the word habitat--a place where animals live. We had fun while learning about the animals and their habitats too. We added snow to the water table and went "ice fishing" for the critters hiding below. We tried balancing an egg on our feet and decided that daddy penguins have a hard job keeping their egg off the ice and safe. We practiced counting and writing numbers in the penguin bowling area. We also made a book comparing our height to that of an adult Emperor penguin. Our cooking project was making penguin chow to help us remember some of the critters penguins like to eat--fish, shrimp, and krill.
