Train Week

We learned about trains--freight (carry goods/ stuff) trains and passenger (carry people) trains. We also learned that you MUST have a grown if you ever go by the tracks.

Each child made a train carry and decided what their car would carry.

The highlight of our week was a walking field trip to the tracks in town. In the AM we arrived just in time to watch and listen to a train go through. After it went through we had a short time to examine the tracks before the railroad work crew needed to start their work for the day. In the afternoon we did not get to see a train and the rail crew was still working so we didn't get time to check out the rails. In the afternoon we took the time to examine a stop sign and a fire hydrant up close.

During our walk to and from the tracks we were busy noticing trees budding and flowers growing. We found some seed pods and many speculated what they were--my favorite answer was "maybe it's beef jerky". Some children pointed out their house or houses of other people they knew.

We saw a chipmunk, a cat, a couple dogs, and SO MANY squirrels. We also noticed numbers on signs, license plates, houses, and mailboxes.

This was our last week with our BookWorm readers.

We had fun with our friends too.

Both had flamingos on their dresses and they were tickled pink about it

Next week will start Early Learning Wrap Up--we will review concepts and favorite stories & activities from our year.
